Thank you for coming!  I'm happy to share the view from my front porch with you.

I have been interested in photography most of my life and am self-taught.  Digital photography has opened up a whole new world for me.  I especially enjoy taking outdoor photos and have an extensive collection of hearts found in nature.  Nature provides me with an endless number of beautiful subjects.
I have used Shutterfly and MyPublisher to create four photobooks comprised of many of my favorites.   My goal is to interest a publisher in my work.
I would love to hear from you.  Please feel free to email me:  kat3154@aol.com

My Heart's Inspiration
In June of 2002 my whole world changed.  My 22-year-old son, Tim, was killed in a car accident.  Only those who have experienced this pain can fully understand the extent of it.  I began collecting hearts--glass hearts, hearts made from shells--and gave them to many people in memory of Tim.  After moving to a new house nearly one year after losing Tim, I was sweeping the driveway and something caught my eye.  The wooden post on the porch had a perfect heart-shaped knot in its corner!  Any reservations I had about moving to this house dissolved in that moment!  After that, I began noticing hearts everywhere and that began my photo collection of hearts in nature.

Then in November of 2004 my older son, Adam, died due to complications from a car accident and the world as I knew it ended.  I no longer understood what possible reason there could be for me to exist.  Both of my beautiful sons were gone and I wished I was, too.  I felt as though I was in a foreign country--or even another planet.  Nothing made sense to me any more.

Photography has been a great help to me in dealing with the loss of my sons.  It has provided me with a focus and gives me a feeling of purpose and joy.  It has taught me to observe what's around me and appreciate the beauty of the simplest things in a world that has become such a puzzle to me.  I am fortunate to live in a peaceful setting surrounded by nature.  I spend a lot of time exploring the woods and always see something new.  Being able to share my observations will, I hope, encourage others to notice their surroundings and also create a lasting memorial to Adam and Tim.

Kathryn, "I See Hearts", along with “Woods of Wisdom” and “Memories of the Heart”, are wonderful tributes to your sons and nature. I know many people will be touched and inspired by them, and we are honored to have all three in Shutterfly Gallery. By the way, your photography is stunning! Can’t wait to see your next masterpiece!
